In 2024, Marthe started as a PhD candidate at AST. Her main project aim is to develop a heart-brain axis on a microfluidic chip, incorporating both sympathetic and parasympathetic components of the autonomic nervous system. She is a part of the research group of Dr. Verena Schwach. Marthe obtained her master’s degree in Neuroscience at Utrecht University. During her master’s, she specialized in stem cell technologies and bioinformatics. For her master thesis, she worked on a cerebral organoid system to model a type of genetic ALS at the UMC Utrecht. Before this, she obtained her bachelor in Biomedical Sciences, also at Utrecht University, during which she had the pleasure to spend a semester at the National University of Singapore, and at University of California, Santa Barbara.
In her free time, she enjoys being at sea; either working as a first mate or sailing for fun. She also likes to take dance class, go to concerts/festivals and paint every now and then.
