Sem A. Sterckel

PhD Candidate

Sem obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente, specializing in Bioengineering Technologies. During various internships, he gained experience in CRISPR/Cas genome editing, pharmacokinetics, and human pluripotent stem cell models. At the Applied Stem Cell Technologies group, he previously worked on the development of a heart-brain-axis on chip.

In January 2024, he joined AST as a PhD candidate under the supervision of Robert Passier. Currently, Sem is developing advanced multidisciplinary technologies aimed at improving in vitro models. These enhanced models will be instrumental in characterizing disease pathologies and identifying new therapeutic targets.
